It all started way back about 1940 when Port Macquarie was, and still is, a very popular holiday and fishing resort on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales about 380Km north of Sydney with excellent facilities for your holiday.
Locals and visitors were catching many Marlin of all sizes and the word rapidly spread that Port was a good place to catch these and other game fish.

Even though there were a number of fishing clubs in Port, not one of them was primarily dedicated to Game Fishing. Visiting anglers interested in game fishing had no organised club in Port.
This situation continued until one Sunday in 1971, when after a very heavy day fishing, a number of anglers were recovering with a bit of nourishment at the Macquarie Hotel when the subject of a game fishing club was mentioned.

After quite a bit of discussion John DULHUNTY placed $50.00 on the table and said, “Let’s get a club into order”. Thus the existing PORT MACQUARIE GAME FISHING CLUB came to be.
Present on that day was,
Kim BOSTON, Max CASLICK, Derek CRISP, John DULHUNTY, Bob EYRE, Alan FOWLER, Arthur GEARING, Bob HARRIS, Sonny MARSH, Geoff RAY and John SEABORN.
Over the years the Club has grown in members and boats with many Australian and World records awarded for Marlin, Sharks, Tuna etc. Some of these records still stand today.
If you have never been game fishing it is an adrenalin charged sport that is available to everyone and once you have hooked-up on a fish you are also hooked.

You do not need your own boat as many of the boats in the club are looking for crew from time to time and there are many members with years of experience who are more than willing to teach you the finer points of game fishing.

The pinnacle of the Club fishing year is the GOLDEN LURE COMPETITION held in January and will be the 31th Competition this coming January 2015. There are many divisions within the Lure with very substantial prizes totalling over $40,000.
We are based in a small clubhouse at the riverside of the Port Marina. Our monthly General meeting is held on the third Friday of the month from 6pm to 9pm or 10pm at the club for a BBQ, drinks and a chat. We extend an invitation to come along; it is a family affair with children occasionally out-numbering adults. There are people from all walks of life so you will have plenty to chat about and the view is worth a million dollars.
